New Riff Single Barrel is one barrel of the Newport distillery's 30%-rye Kentucky bourbon bottled at barrel proof, non-chill-filtered — the format enthusiasts chase New Riff for, and the one Breaking Bourbon says delivers fuller flavor and complexity than the bonded. Ken Lewis built New Riff in Newport, Kentucky in 2014 on the Cincinnati riverfront after selling his liquor store chain; the mashbill is 65% corn, 30% rye, 5% malted barley, fermented by the sour-mash method, distilled in a copper column and doubler, cut with aquifer water, and aged at least four years in 53-gallon toasted-and-charred barrels. The Single Barrel is bottled from one of those barrels at its natural strength — this one at 98 proof — without chill filtration, so the barrel's own character comes through: vanilla, butterscotch, oak, and spice in proportions that change bottle to bottle. Expect the New Riff signature — savory, spicy, full-bodied high-rye bourbon — with more texture and more of whatever this barrel did than the bonded; check your label for the barrel number. Honest note: New Riff's single-barrel program is one of the most popular in Kentucky with bourbon clubs, and every barrel is different by design — for the drinker who wants rye spice at strength and the collector who compares barrels. Neat, a drop of water. New Riff, one barrel.Buy New Riff Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey online with fast shipping right to your door.
